In upper school, members of the Knights Nation Club shine as leaders who pursue and value the global initiatives supported by the office of diversity and belonging. Two years ago, upper school students Dailey Schenck and Gabi Martin founded the Knights Nations Club with the goal of learning about and interacting with local and international communities while encouraging families and students to engage more intentionally with one another.
Dailey and Gabi explained that their favorite parts of leading this club are watching students from all four upper school grade levels befriend one another, be willing to learn about people different from them and offer a warm and welcoming environment for all students. Visiting international grocery stores and selecting snacks and candies from around the world is a highlight for all club members. Dailey and Gabi said they are always impressed by their peers’ willingness to try new foods and listen to new music. A typical club meeting may include an interactive game, a service project or a presentation. During the Easter season, for example, Knight Nations Club members learned about the ways Easter is celebrated across the globe.
Junior David Thomas Little will lead the club next year, and he is motivated by seeing students open to learning something new, which exemplifies the heart of the club: showing others that “everyone is welcome.”
