98,484 crayons! Middle school students rallied together to collect boxes of crayons for Rock of Ages Ministries. This semester’s crayon drive demonstrated the impact that our students can make on their neighbors near and far. Grade 5 Science Teacher Diane Ketron, along with Middle School Spiritual LIfe Director Rian Berger, led the charge.

Mrs. Ketron’s brother, Jeff Bellamy, has served as a missionary with Rock of Ages for nearly 30 years and shared how our students’ donations will directly impact the culture in Nigeria. His team named their current drive “Operation: Supply the Next Generation.”  In early November, they anticipate the shipment of crayons, along with coloring books rooted in Scripture and the Gospel, will arrive in Nigeria. Missionaries with Rock of Ages Ministries and their partners will be able to share the love of Christ in a tangible way with these brand-new crayons and coloring books and will also point Nigerian children and their families to the truths of the Gospel through the pages of each book.

Imagine the life of just one of those boxes of crayons: traveling from the hands of a middle school student in Charlotte, North Carolina, and crossing the Atlantic Ocean into the hands of a Nigerian child in need of the Savior. This semester’s middle school service project demonstrates how the Knights Serve initiatives encourage students to live out the core values of showing kindness and impacting the culture for Christ.
