The magic of Christmas at Charlotte Christian often begins before the first note is even played, starting right on the cover of the concert program. This Christmas season, that cover art was painted by one of our very own, alumnus Andrew Knotts ('20).
As a fine arts student at Charlotte Christian, Andrew demonstrated talent, dedication and a particular interest in painting. Dedicated to growing in his craft, Andrew earned several gold key awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing competition. His artwork was also displayed in public galleries around Charlotte by ArtPop in the 2020 ArtPop Street Gallery. After graduation, Andrew took his creativity to Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Studio Art in 2024.
Mr. Bryn Gillette, upper school visual art teacher, shared his memories of Andrew as a student: “Andrew was a remarkable artist during the years I shared with him in the CCS art studio, exhibiting a refinement of his craft and a personal expression in his art that was well beyond his years. What makes Andrew so remarkable is his genuine humility in the midst of all his talent. His personableness made him a joy to work with, and I am delighted to see what is unfolding in his life and eager to witness what the Lord will continue to do through him.”
Today, Andrew is weaving together the worlds of design and engineering. He's been instrumental in the startup scene, lending his talents to graphic design, UX design, and software engineering for innovative companies like Eranova, right here in Charlotte. More recently, Andrew has ventured to the Big Apple, serving as the Founding Engineer for Volca in New York City.
Andrew also continues to find time to create stunning artwork in his private studio. Visit andrewrknotts.com to access a portfolio of Andrew’s design and programming work. You can also view Andrew’s art portfolio @andrewknottsart on Instagram.
We are grateful for Andrew’s talents and his contribution to this year’s Christmas at Christian artwork. It is an honor and joy to watch our alumni use their gifts and talents to glorify the Lord as Andrew has with this particular piece of art.
