Congratulations to junior Dallas Thomley for scoring in the top 20 for the Blumey Awards Best Actor category. Dallas was recognized for his role of Willard Hewitt in Charlotte Christian School's upper school production of Footloose. While only the top six finalists advance in the competition, his nomination to the top 20 among the best in high school performing arts is a big honor. Last year, Dallas was also recognized as a finalist for Best Featured Performer for his role of Telly in the school's production of Godspell.
The Blumey Awards are in their sixth year and include participation from a record 44 high schools this year. Presented by the Blumenthal Performing Arts, the Blumey Awards recognize, reward and encourage talent and achievement in musical theater among high school students and highlight the importance of musical theater and arts education in general.
The 2017 Blumey Awards will be held Sunday, May 21 at the Belk Theater in uptown Charlotte. The ceremony will include the announcement of winners in 14 categories and feature excerpts from the six shows nominated for the Wells Fargo Best Musical Award. Finalists for Best Actor and Best Actress will also perform medleys and two students from each school will perform in the opening and closing numbers. A 17-piece band consisting of local professional musicians will accompany all of the performances. The music will be arranged by professional orchestrator, composer and conductor David Dabbon of New York.
