Congratulations to Charlotte Christian School’s new Lower School RoboKnights teams on advancing to compete at the 2017 VEX Worlds - VEX IQ Challenge Elementary School Division scheduled for April 23-25 in Louisville, Ky. Both teams advanced to the world level following their success at the North Carolina VEX IQ State Robotics Championships held last weekend in Concord. The six students are divided into two groups, RoboKnights Boys and RoboKnights Girls, all fifth grade students with a love of engineering, math and science. The RoboKnights Boys won first place at the state level, earning the VEX IQ Challenge State Championship title, and the girls placed third in the state thanks to an additional programming element they wrote as part of the autonomous programming part of the competition. Both teams will now continue training and practicing to prepare for the world championships.
The Lower School RoboKnights are led by Mrs. Dana Brickner, lower school STEM teacher, and Mrs. Kimberly Warr, lower school instructional technology facilitator. Mr. Mark Sadowski, VEX Robotics parent and professional engineer, also volunteered his time to mentor both teams during after school practices and at all of the team's competitions.
This is a first year program at Charlotte Christian, mirrored after the successful upper school RoboKnights team and the new middle school team. Next year, the team will expand to include fourth grade students as well. The middle and upper RoboKnights teams also had multiple successes this season with both teams advancing to compete at the state level in the North Carolina VEX VRC State Robotics Championships.
