CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE
What are your favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian and why?
My favorite subject at CCS has to be BC Calculus. I love reasoning and logic, and Calculus is simply reasoning with numbers. I solved problems by thinking critically, and the class was full of great people and had an excellent teacher. I also really liked AP Government, as the course content piques a genuine interest.
Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
Mrs. Jones (math) is one of my favorite teachers. Besides teaching my favorite class in high school, she also pours so much into her students, ensuring that each kid who needs help and understanding gets it. I never feel afraid to speak up in her class, and she has been such a role model in my life. Ms. Nixon (history) has also been an amazing influence in my high school experience. It is abundantly clear that she cares deeply for each of her students, and I have felt her love pour into me all four years, but especially this year, as she has helped me navigate my college application process.
How has Charlotte Christian impacted you or made a difference in your life? How has Charlotte Christian prepared you for life after graduation?
Charlotte Christian has surrounded me with people who care deeply about my success, not only as a person, but as a Christ-follower as well. Day in and day out teachers pour into me and my classmates, not only teaching us the course content but also giving us role models to look up to. Charlotte Christian has given me the tools I need to feel secure in my faith as I enter into a much more secular environment. I now know how to defend my faith, a skill that will no doubt prove useful in my next four years and beyond.

CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE
What are your favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian and why?
My favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian have been English, Computer Science, Bible and Math. English has risen to be one of my favorite subjects over the last two years, as AP Lang and AP Lit have challenged me and helped me raise my level of writing. This year, Computer Science has been one of the most interesting classes I've taken and has taught me to think in new and creative ways. The Bible classes across my years in the middle and upper school at CCS have provided me with a strong Christian foundation. Finally, math has been my favorite subject by far and I have loved taking classes such as AP BC Calculus, Algebra 2 Trig Honors and AP Statistics. These classes have challenged me and have also been some of the ones I have enjoyed most during my four years in the upper school.
Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
- Mr. Mina has been the most influential teacher for me, particularly over my last two years at CCS. He has been a great teacher in the many challenging STEM classes I have taken. He has also been an amazing mentor in many important aspects of my life, with the most meaningful being my faith. Mr. Mina has not only been my favorite teacher, but has become a great and trusted friend as well.
- Mrs. Jones is one of my favorite teachers and taught AP BC Calculus, one of my favorite classes during my time at CCS. I have taken two of Mrs. Jones’ classes, and one thing they had in common was that she always made learning fun for us.
- Mr. Ector is likely the funniest teacher in the upper school. We have come a long way from the first days of 10th grade English, and I remain close with him to this day.
- Mrs. Stamps was my favorite teacher during my two years in middle school. She consistently made science fun during eighth grade (no matter how challenging it was), and also went out of her way to connect with me and my classmates outside the classroom and make us feel truly loved.
- Mr. Ferguson is a teacher that made learning fun for me, motivating our AP Gov class through our battle with B1. He has also served as a great mentor to me and someone I have developed a bond with beyond the classroom.
- Mrs. Nieto was my Spanish teacher for three years. I cherished my time in her classes and have been blessed to see her love for me and my classmates grow year after year.
- Mrs. Ramsey has been another teacher who has known me for many years, albeit not always in the classroom. From Writing Center appointments with Mrs. Ramsey to leading them on my own as a Writing Center peer tutor, Mrs. Ramsey has served as a great mentor who always expresses her confidence in me. Through her AP Lit class, I have seen my confidence in my ability to write grow.
- Mrs. Szymborski has been a joy to get to know over the last two years. I have enjoyed learning from her in AP Lang while also enjoying laughs over inside jokes in class.
- Coach Scott, basketball coach, was one of my first coaches at CCS and someone who I enjoyed playing for. Despite the sprints and hard practices, he was a great coach and mentor and I will always remember our undefeated season in seventh grade.
- Although not coaching me directly, I have gotten to learn from Coach Fronk this past year while serving as an analytics manager for the varsity baseball team. While we might disagree on our college basketball allegiances, he has been a great mentor and I have enjoyed getting to know him throughout the season.
How has Charlotte Christian impacted you or made a difference in your life? How has Charlotte Christian prepared you for life after graduation?
Charlotte Christian has impacted me in many ways. One way has been in pushing me beyond my boundaries inside the classroom through challenging coursework. It has also developed and strengthened my faith. Due to the Bible department, I now have a firm understanding of what I believe and feel ready to defend it and share it with others. Charlotte Christian has also impacted me by showing me how to love unconditionally. Through the examples of teachers, coaches and friends, I have seen unconditional love expressed day in and day out at CCS.
Through the many ways that CCS has impacted me, I now feel prepared for life after graduation. I feel prepared to overcome challenges in life, whether they be academic or faith-based. I also feel confident in maintaining my faith on my own away from the nurturing Christian environment that CCS provides. Finally, I feel prepared to craft relationships rooted in love for others, as I have done during my time at Charlotte Christian.

From a very young age I have always wanted to reach for the skies. In everything I do it seems like I always end up trying to redefine the limits and be among the birds. I've found that all the abilities I possess supplement the overarching field that is aviation. That’s when I knew that my purpose was to pursue a career in aviation. Over the recent years, I have come to the realization that my true dream and calling is to become an airline pilot. With my admission to various different prestigious institutions, I can now say for certain that I will be studying Aeronautical Sciences in the next educational step of my life. Over the course of the next four years, I will be educated and trained to operate and maintain aircraft of all types and be given opportunities to create connections with various airlines in the aviation industry. CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE
What are your favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian and why?
There are a wide range of subjects offered at Charlotte Christian that have contributed to who I am as a person. With that being said, my favorite subjects that I have taken are physics, pre-calculus, engineering and architecture. I found these subjects to be the most impactful as they have helped reinforce my belief that being an airline pilot is what will allow me to bring the most glory to God.
Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
One of the unique aspects of Charlotte Christian School that separates it from the rest is the amazing staff and teachers. Dr. Sturdevant’s passion for physics made me realize just how much fun it can be and also how closely it relates to what I want to do. Mr. Cummings and Dr. Speakman allowed me to develop my spiritual understanding every morning through the sharing of different perspectives on various subjects pertaining to spiritual life. Mrs. Heaton, by a large margin, helped me understand math to the point where I now look forward to studying calculus in college. Mr. Henson provided me with my first exposure to the logical and philosophical understanding behind God and world religions, as well as their views. Most importantly I would like to mention Mrs. Greene (MS engineering and MS robotics coordinator), Mr. Beezhold (director of technology and innovation and US robotics coordinator) and Mr. Mina (US physics). These particular teachers provided experiences which have ultimately impacted what I dream of doing in the future. These are just a few of the amazing staff and teachers that have made my experience at CCS a memorable one.
How has Charlotte Christian impacted you or made a difference in your life? How has Charlotte Christian prepared you for life after graduation?
In terms of preparation, I know Charlotte Christian School has equipped me with the necessary tools to impact the culture for Christ both at home and abroad. As I go into college to study the field of aviation, I realize that my career will take me to places all across the world. As the Global Awareness Prefect, I have realized how important it is that I use my career to bring glory to God through experiencing and immersing myself in different cultures. I know for certain that CCS has made a huge difference in my life, certainly when compared to what my school life could have been if I attended an institution in Argentina, where my parents are from. I would undoubtedly not be remotely the same person without the experience I've had at Charlotte Christian School.

ABOUT ME
In what grade did you start at Charlotte Christian?
I started at Charlotte Christian in kindergarten.
Why did you or your parents choose Charlotte Christian?
My parents chose Charlotte Christian because I attended a Christian preschool and they wanted to maintain a Christ-centered education when I entered lower school. In addition, my parents believed that CCS had a strong academic curriculum and would provide me with endless opportunities to explore many areas outside of academics.
What co-curricular or athletic events are you involved with, including leadership roles, both in and out of school? Please include service/volunteer activities along with any job that you might have.
On campus, I have participated in a number of different activities. After serving as a student ambassador for three years, I was blessed to be selected as this year’s Admissions Prefect. As the Admissions Prefect, I work closely with Mrs. Allycia Brown and Mrs. Joann Calhoun in order to assist them with whatever tasks they may need to help the flow of the admissions department. I also work alongside the student ambassador committee at open house events to promote the Christ-like atmosphere of Charlotte Christian.
I was a part of the junior varsity/varsity volleyball teams for four years, the varsity swim and junior varsity/varsity lacrosse teams for two years and the varsity soccer team for one year. This year, I was honored to be named one of the three co-captains of the varsity volleyball team.
I have participated in fine arts at Charlotte Christian since the fourth grade and I have been in a total of nine musicals during my time at CCS, my favorite being Beauty and the Beast in the 10th grade where I was cast as “Mrs. Potts.”
I also serve as president of the Best Buddies Club, which works within the CCS community in order to spark awareness of the importance of inclusion for those with IDD (intellectual/developmental disabilities.) I also serve as an academic peer-tutor in the Writing Center.
Outside of school, I spend time working with the Special Olympics. My favorite part of working with the Special Olympics is serving as a counselor at their Camp S.O.A.R., which is a week-long summer camp for some of the Special Olympics athletes. CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE
What are your favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian and why?
My favorite subjects at CCS have been English and psychology. I have always loved writing and each of my English classes has provided me with an outlet to express myself through several different areas of writing. I specifically enjoyed AP Language and Composition with Mrs. Szymborski last year as I was pushed to step out of my comfort zone as a writer and I grew a lot from that experience. I have developed a deep love for psychology. Beginning junior year in Ms. McCarrick’s Intro to Psych class to now in Mrs. Poole’s AP Psychology class, I have had the incredible opportunity to explore this subject. Both of these classes have taught me valuable information about the world of psychology and I believe that I have a better understanding of myself because of all I have learned.
Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
Some of my favorite teachers at CCS have been Mr. Ector, Dr. Headley, Mr. Ferguson, Dr. Sturdevant, Mrs. Heaton, Mrs. Ramsey, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Calhoun, Mr. Cummings, Mrs. Cassier, and last but not least Dr. Hardy. Each of the teachers has touched my life in different, but still incredibly meaningful ways.
- Dr. Headley, Mr. Ferguson, Mrs. Heaton, and Mrs. Jones taught my history and math classes, and while I may not have been the greatest history or math student, these teachers pushed me to be successful in and out of the classroom.
- Mr. Ector and Mrs. Ramsey have taught my English classes and it is because of them that English has been my favorite subject in school. They have made their classes both fun and educational, which has caused me to fall in love with this subject.
- Dr. Sturdevant is one of my favorite teachers at CCS because of how engaged with her students she is. I took Physics Honors with her last year and I knew I could depend on her to be there to help me if I was ever struggling in class. I learned a great deal from her as a person and as a student.
- Mrs. Cassier has been my college counselor at CCS and I can honestly say I would not have gotten into college without her. Mrs. Cassier is one of the most incredible people I know and I am blessed to have developed a close relationship with her.
- Lastly, I have gotten to work with Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Calhoun closely this year as a prefect. Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Calhoun have been my mentors this year and they have been absolutely amazing to me throughout my whole journey as a senior. They have provided me with so many lessons and kind words that I will carry with me into college next year.
- Mr. Cummings and Dr. Hardy both taught me in Bible class, and they have both challenged me in my faith. I am thankful for their push to make me a better Christian and I feel prepared for college next year because of what they taught me.
Some of my favorite coaches have been Mr. Boythe, Coach Katherine Hooks, Coach Bekah Brinkley, Coach Ricky Foster and Ms. McCarrick.
- Mr. Boythe was my eighth grade basketball coach, but he is quite possibly one of the best coaches I have ever had. I improved a great deal as a player because of him, but Mr. Boythe also taught me many valuable lessons about being a good teammate which has meant a lot to me in upper school.
- I played on the varsity volleyball team with Coach Bekah and Coach Hooks. I now consider these women to be not only my coaches but also my friends. Coach Hooks and Coach Bekah pushed me to be the best player and person I could be. They both provided me with a greater understanding of volleyball and what it means to be a good Christian woman.
- Coach Ricky is genuinely one of the kindest people I know. It was apparent how deeply he cared for each of his swimmers and this touched me a great deal as I worked through my final season as a CCS AquaKnight this year.
- Lastly, I am thankful for Ms. McCarrick’s constant encouragement on and off the lacrosse field. She has become like an older sister to me, and it has been such a blessing to know her and to be coached by her.
How has Charlotte Christian impacted you or made a difference in your life? How has Charlotte Christian prepared you for life after graduation?

I have made friends and developed close relationships with my peers, teachers and coaches that I know will last me a lifetime. Charlotte Christian has provided me with a network of people that I know I will always be able to count on and turn to if I ever need a helping hand. CCS has prepared me for life after graduation through the foundation of faith I have been able to build. I doubt I would be the woman that I am today without her and I am so thankful for her and her wisdom.

CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE
What are your favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian and why?
I have loved every subject during my time at Charlotte Christian but a few in particular have stood out to me. Algebra II with Mrs. Emery has been my favorite math class at CCS. Mrs. Emery teaches in a way that makes the lessons comprehensible to all students. Through her teaching, it is extremely evident that Mrs. Emery loves math and loves her students.
American Government Honors with Mr. Ferguson was a highlight of my junior year. Mr. Ferguson taught government with Christ at the center, and I left class feeling more unified with my classmates because of how often he reminded us we are all one in Christ. It was extremely evident how much work Mr. Ferguson put into his lessons and how he genuinely wanted his students to succeed.
AP Art History with Mr. Gillette was one of the most fun classes I have taken at Charlotte Christian. This class was a lot of work and out of my comfort zone, but Mr. Gillette taught the curriculum in a way that made every piece of artwork so intriguing to learn about.
Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
Mrs. Edwards was my first teacher at Charlotte Christian when I was in JK. My first memories here were made with her. One of my favorite memories from my time at Charlotte Christian is when I learned to read. Mrs. Edwards let me sit in the big chair at the front of the room and I read for the first time to my class. Memories with Mrs. Edwards are something I hope I never forget.
Mrs. Emery’s door is always open, where she's ready to listen, and then gives the best advice. Mrs. Emery is so fun to be in class with and I loved going on her J-Term trip to Disney World.
Mrs. Heaton (US math) cares about each of her students and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure they understand the unit.
These past two years, Mr. Ferguson has been a voice of encouragement to me. He always encourages me to persevere even when I want to give up. This past semester, Mr. Ferguson encouraged me consistently to seek the Lord first in making my college decision, and he celebrated every college acceptance with the most sincere “Congratulations.”
Mrs. Cassier (US college counselor) is an actual life saver. She made the college application process 1,000 times less stressful. I love going to her office to update her on the big and little things and she always makes me feel so celebrated.
Mrs. Webber (US English) has been my advisor for the last four years and I have loved every single minute with her in advisory.

ABOUT ME
In what grade did you start at Charlotte Christian?
I started at Charlotte Christian in the eighth grade.
Why did you or your parents choose Charlotte Christian?
After moving to Charlotte, we chose Charlotte Christian because I wanted to attend a private Christian school that had the same values as our family. We read the mission statement during our visit, and knew it would be the best fit for my sister, Karsen, and me. The teachers strive to build genuine relationships with the students, and foster a stronger relationship with God. Along with the outstanding moral values being instilled, CCS offers great academics.

I have been active in both school and club wrestling for the past five years. Along with the varsity team, I am a member of a wrestling club in Fort Mill, South Carolina (C2X). C2X asked me to speak about "leading by example" because of my leadership role in the club. I have been a team captain for the past two years at school. Every year the CCS wrestling team works within the community to serve others, whether assisting at a food bank, playing with kids at a daycare facility or sorting clothes at a shelter. At C2X, we host a 24 hour fitness fundraiser for children with cancer or low income schools to help them buy supplies. The goal is to raise funds for each of the 24 hours that you work out.

ABOUT ME
In what grade did you start at Charlotte Christian?
I started at Charlotte Christian in the ninth grade.
Why did you or your parents choose Charlotte Christian?
I chose Charlotte Christian because from the moment I stepped onto campus for my interview, I knew that something was different. The environment of the school was vibrant and the people were so welcoming that it immediately felt like home. My parents chose Charlotte Christian because they were impressed with the various opportunities that the school provided for me and my siblings to expand our many different interests. They also really wanted me to be in a school where I could grow in my faith and truly have a Christ-centered learning environment. The concept that God was the focus of everything that I was doing whether that was in academics or my co-curriculars really appealed to them and that is overall why we came to the conclusion that CCS would be the best fit.
What co-curricular or athletic events are you involved with, including leadership roles, both in and out of school? Please include service/volunteer activities along with any job that you might have.
I have been heavily involved with a wide variety of activities here at CCS since my freshman year. CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE
What are your favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian and why?
My favorite subjects more or less stayed the same throughout the years. Math and Latin were always highlights whenever Mrs. Cassier asked what I most enjoyed. I loved the teachers that I had in those subjects and the way they taught clicked with me in a unique way. Outside of those two I really enjoyed the classes that taught me the value of perseverance and hard work so APUSH (AP United States History) and AP Gov were two really hard classes that pushed me and that I saw the most growth in myself over the years. Bible classes throughout the years have also really resonated with me and I've learned some of the best life lessons in those classes.
Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
When I tell you that every single teacher at this school has had an impact on me in some way, I truly mean it. I would however like to highlight a few of those who I grew close to in particular. Mrs. Bishop has been my Latin teacher all four years of high school and she's probably seen me grow the most. She's so compassionate and she always made Latin fun and easy to understand. Mrs. Jones has been my math teacher for two years now and the amount of math tricks and life lessons I've learned from her are numerous. Mr. Ector, English teacher, has been someone I've really come to know the last couple years as well and he is always there to lend an ear or share a story to make me laugh. Mr. Ferguson and Dr. Headley, upper school social studies teachers, taught two of the hardest classes that I took but they were always there to encourage me and share some piece of wisdom. Mrs. Webber was my English teacher freshman year and my homeroom teacher for the first three years of high school and her outlook on life and the people around her really resonated with me. Lastly Mr. Mina has been such a constant the last four years, even though I didn't have him as a teacher until this year, he came to as many robotics competitions as he could and constantly shows his students how much he cares and supports them. Outside of teachers, Mrs. Cassier and Mrs. Foxx have forever changed my life. I owe so much knowledge and gratitude to the two of them for getting me where I am today. Finally Mr. Brown, Mrs. Little, Mrs. Poole, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Miller have also made such an impact on me this year with all things ‘prefect.’ I wouldn't be an effective leader without their guidance and support.
How has Charlotte Christian impacted you or made a difference in your life? How has Charlotte Christian prepared you for life after graduation?
There really is no way to say everything that CCS has given to me during my high school experience. I don't know what I would've done without so many of these people that make up this home. The teachers and staff have such a love for the Lord and the way they share that with their students is something I aspire to keep with me for life. The students and people I've come to know as my second family have forever changed my outlook on the world and the countless laughs I've shared with everyone is one of the greatest blessings I've ever been given. Bottom line is Charlotte Christian has prepared me for life after graduation in more ways than I can count. The school taught me to be a self advocate, a self learner, a self starter, to value hard work, and most importantly, how to maintain God at the center of it all.

Another class that I enjoyed being a part of is yearbook. I have been on staff since my sophomore year and have been an editor both my junior and senior years. Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
There have been many teachers, staff members and coaches who I love and have invested in me over my four years at Charlotte Christian.
Ms. McCarrick has been such an amazing yearbook advisor and teacher. We have worked together for two years to make the yearbook the best it can possibly be and I have loved every minute of it. I also enjoyed taking her psychology and sociology classes because she made learning fun. I know that whenever I see her she will bring a smile to my face and I will forever cherish the relationship that I have with her.
Although I never took any of his classes, Mr. Bedenbaugh, upper school technology facilitator, has had such an impact on me during my time at Charlotte Christian. He is so invested in my academics, my athletics and my faith. He is always there for me when I am struggling and gives the best advice and his honest opinion. I am so thankful for him and the relationship that I have with him.
Both Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Heaton, upper school math teachers, have been such great teachers and have made me love math even more. Even though their classes were challenging, they made sure I understood every lesson and I will definitely take what I learned in their classes into college.
I have had many great coaches while being a part of the varsity softball and swim teams. Coach Ricky Foster has invested countless hours into me; practicing with me early in the morning, on the weekends, and during the summer to make me a better swimmer. Coach Ricky helped me love swimming so much more and I have loved being coached by him.
I have been around Coach Kevin Hinde on the softball field since around the time I first started playing softball. He has taught me a lot and I have enjoyed the time I have played for him at Charlotte Christian.
Coach Rebecca and Gunnar Dillion have had such an impact on me, both on and off the softball field. They have helped me particularly with applying my faith to my sport and I am so grateful for both of them.
The strength coaches at CCS have helped me so much. During the many hours I have spent with Coach Lewis and Coach Kaplan in the weight room, I have become so much stronger and they have helped me become a better overall athlete.

CCS has fostered many relationships and friendships that will last many years and that I am so thankful for. CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE
What are your favorite subjects at Charlotte Christian and why?
My favorite subjects during upper school were physics and theology. My reasoning behind physics was because of my perseverance through COVID-19 with the difficult subject. I built a strong relationship with our teacher, Dr. Sturdevant, who helped me throughout the year. It taught me that I am mentally stronger than I thought I could be. Theology is my favorite subject because it truly taught me to look deeper into our meaning of life and my relationship with Jesus. We learned how to defend our beliefs by better understanding other worldviews.
Who are some of your favorite Charlotte Christian teachers or coaches and why?
My favorite teacher is Dr. Sturdevant strictly because of the respect she showed me during the long and difficult school year online. Coach Simmons and Coach Fronk have also played huge roles in my life on and off the baseball diamond. I cannot thank those three enough for the life-long lessons I have learned from them.
How has Charlotte Christian impacted you or made a difference in your life? How has Charlotte Christian prepared you for life after graduation?
Even though Charlotte Christian offers incredible academics and athletics, it is the life-long friends and experiences that will stick with me most. I learned that being able to connect with a like-minded community is important to our personal lives - high quality friendships = high quality life. I am sad to see my days as a Charlotte Christian student end, but I will always remember that I am a Knight connected through Christ forever!
