Media & Writing Center

The Charlotte Christian School media centers are an integral part of the school community. They provide a collaborative learning environment to support student curiosity and creativity while fostering critical thinking skills and developing an appreciation of literature. A student who has moved through our media centers is capable of engaging with reading and the process of discovery as a means to broaden understanding and deepen faith.

Charlotte Christian’s media centers maintain print and digital resource collections for student and faculty access to support classroom content, individual project inquiries and titles for reading for leisure. The media centers support and equip students and educators to encounter new ideas and discover interests, critically examine information and learn the ethics and methods of research, and promote foundational literacy skills, which will foster a lifelong love of reading.

Maxine Lower School Media Center

Lower school students attend enrichment weekly in the media center to learn library skills and other lessons to enhance classroom instruction. Our lower school media specialist works closely with classroom teachers to plan ways to enhance upcoming units as well as ways to incorporate research and literature into their work in all subject areas. Students are also able to self-select and check out books of personal interest and/or resources that will enable them to complete assignments or acquire a more complete understanding of a concept covered in the classroom.

Bryte Little Efird Middle & Upper School Media Center

The Bryte Little Efird Media Center features extensive technology and collaboration zones designed specifically for middle and upper school students. The new media center includes a touch screen interactive TV featuring school events; a digital hearth TV; collaborative booth TVs; a SMART technology interactive projector; private meeting space for faculty professional development; and numerous charging stations and work spaces for students to use their MacBooks or work collaboratively on group projects. For more information please contact Middle/Upper School Media Specialist, Jessica Ramsey, at jessica.ramsey@charchrist.com

Reading Knights

The Reading Knights program is an incentive program to encourage reading and instill a lifelong love of books in our lower school students. The program aligns with the reading units in each grade level and is divided into quarters. Each quarter students will read a certain number of books and record them on their Reading Knights' log. Students will be recognized at the end of each quarter in their media class for meeting their quarter goal. Students who meet their goal all four quarters will be recognized in a special end-of-year chapel, with special recognition for students who have participated throughout their entire lower school experience. For more information please contact Lower School Media Specialist, Molly French, at molly.french@charchrist.com.

Writing Center

With the goal of encouraging competent and confident writers, the Writing Center at Charlotte Christian School exists to support our students in this significant skill. Writers in grades 6-12 are encouraged to utilize this free resource as they plan for, draft, write, and revise research papers, speeches, college essays, presentations, and other projects. Through 15-30 minute meetings with peer tutors or Mrs. Jessica Ramsey, who leads the Writing Center, students will leave with feedback, practical tips, and additional strategies to use in developing their writing.
