Middle School

The middle school at Charlotte Christian offers young adolescents an academically rigorous, developmentally appropriate curriculum in a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered community. The middle school encourages students to grow academically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Growth is fostered at every level as our faculty and program actively seek to develop habits and attitudes that make our students future-ready. As students grow in their understanding and experiences, our goal is for them to develop lifelong learning skills and interpersonal relationship skills from a biblical worldview with an emphasis on their individual approach to learning.

Grades 5-8

The middle school years are a period of development for independence, self-concept, maturity, and self-confidence. These years are filled with energy and excitement balanced by teacher-led advisory groups and chapels addressing issues important to adolescents to help them develop values, attitudes, habits of learning, peer and family relationships, and Christ-like character.

Our middle school model includes two intentionally crafted grade-level cohorts grouping grades five and six and grades seven and eight together to offer similar yet specialized programming tailored to the needs of our early adolescent learners. We offer scaffolded course selections and experiences to ensure a developmentally appropriate educational journey as students advance through middle school.

Middle School Houses

Six houses, one family. Middle school at Charlotte Christian has a unique identity. Our house system assigns students into one of six groups that meet routinely throughout the year. Through various activities, games, and team building, students find their belonging, voice, and leadership potential within their house and the entire middle school community. It is well documented that play and pro-social opportunities are an important part of the development of the middle school student, and our house system gives both students and teachers an opportunity for fun and relationship building. Our goal is for every student to leave us having a deeper understanding of their identity in Christ and a sense of belonging within our community.

FINE ARTS OPPORTUNITIES

Experiences in fine arts provide a unique setting for students to discover and develop confidence in their God given gifts and abilities in the realm of creativity. Curricular fine arts offerings fall into one of four disciplines: digital arts, music, theatre, and visual arts. With nearly twenty electives to choose from, middle school students can engage in the arts by exploring and trying a wide variety of arts electives or specializing in one or two disciplines. Course offerings include band, choir, orchestra, guitar, ukulele, digital music, broadcasting, visual art, acting, and an audition only competitive drama team, among others. Middle school students also have the opportunity to perform a co-curricular mainstage musical each fall. Previous shows include The Lion King, Jr., Mary Poppins, Jr., The Best Christmas Pageant Ever Musical, and Elf the Musical JR.

INNOVATION Opportunities

Middle school is an important time for students to explore their strengths and interests. To do that effectively, students need exposure to many different concepts and activities, especially those that intersect with real-world issues. Our innovation courses develop students who are problem solvers, innovators, inventors, and logical thinkers. The curriculum helps students connect what they learn in different classes and explore engineering, technology, and medical applications. Innovation courses that have been offered include coding, engineering, architecture, 3D solid modeling, genius hour, robotics, forensic science, midKnight innovation, digital music, and creative media.
