Barry Giller 
Head of School

Mr. Barry Giller assumed the position of Charlotte Christian head of school in June 2010. As head of school Mr. Giller oversees the college preparatory school’s 200 employees and more than 1,100 students in grades JK to 12. In his tenure at Charlotte Christian, Mr. Giller has overseen four building campaigns: the Warner Field House and renovation of the Guy Gym in 2012; the Hendrick Center for Arts and Science was completed in August 2013; the MS/US Media Center as well as the athletic stadium and track renovation in the summer of 2015; the Center for Worship and Performing Arts in 2017 and phase 2 of the master campus plan including Guy Field, Harvick Field House and eight tennis courts in 2020. He has introduced an all-inclusive dining program (2013-14) and the iKnights academic technology initiative bringing Apple technology to campus.

A 1994 graduate of Wheaton College, he received his Bachelor of Arts in history/social science and a certification for secondary education. He also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership in Nova Southeastern University and is an adjunct professor for Gordon College. Mr. Giller currently chairs the executive committee for the Council of Educational Standards and Accountability and is the president of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association. Mr. Giller is also a faculty member for the Van Lunen Center at Calvin University which provides executive management education for heads of Christian schools.

Mr. Giller served six years as headmaster at Christian Heritage School, a private K-12 interdenominational Christian college preparatory school, in Trumbull, Conn. He joined Christian Heritage in 2001 as the upper school principal and was promoted to the headmaster position in 2004.

In addition to his more than 25 years of work as a Christian education administrator, he has a strong background in development, athletics and teaching. Prior to his appointment at Christian Heritage, he also served at Dade Christian School in Miami, Fla. (1997-2001) and Stony Brook School in Stony Brook, N.Y. (1994-97). He has previously served as a principal, assistant principal, athletic director, teacher, coach and dorm parent.

Barry and his wife of 27 years, Lisa, have seven children (one current student and six graduates that includes one faculty member at Charlotte Christian) and one granddaughter. The family is active at New City Church.

Terry Efird 
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Terry Efird joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty in 2003 when he was asked to join the business office as the director of finance and operations. He served as the chief operating officer of Charlotte Christian School for the 2009-10 school year. Mr. Efird is responsible for managing the financial and facilities activities of the school, including the business office, facilities and security, capital investment and master site plan construction. Before coming to Charlotte Christian, Mr. Efird spent 26 years in the finance areas at Bank of America. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University. Terry and his wife, Kathy, have a son, Patrick (’03), daughter-in-law, Morgan, and granddaughter, Charlotte.

Theresa Kasay 
Chief Academic Officer

Dr. Theresa Kasay joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty in 2011, as the chief academic officer. Dr. Kasay is responsible for curriculum development and implementation for junior kindergarten through grade 12. She also oversees accreditation, admissions, academic services, the technology department, the media centers, and teacher licensure. She has over 25 years of experience as an educator and administrator in both private and public schools. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia. She also holds two master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; a Master’s of Education in Reading, Language, and Literacy and Master’s in School Administration with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Kasay holds her EdD in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Supervision with an additional specialization in Superintendency from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In 2006 she was awarded the North Carolina Principal Fellowship.

Sharon Humphrey 
Lower School Principal

Miss Sharon Humphrey joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty on July 1, 2011, as the lower school principal. She is responsible for implementing the vision and providing the leadership to effectively manage the faculty and students of the lower school division. Miss Humphrey has more than 30 years of experience as a lower school educator and administrator. She brings to the lower school extensive expertise in curriculum development, staff development and mentoring, and relationship building between teachers, parents and students. Prior to coming to Charlotte Christian, she served as the lower school principal at St. David’s School in Raleigh for eight years. She graduated from Florida International University with a master’s degree in social work specializing in children and families.

Brooke Morgan 
Middle School Principal

Mrs. Brooke Morgan joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty in 2017 as the upper school dean of students and moved into the middle school principal role in July 2020. As the upper school dean of students she was charged with coordinating student life activities, including the Prefect leadership system; served on the upper school admissions committee; chaired the disciplinary committee; facilitated advisory classes and J-Term opportunities; and served as the World Languages cross-divisional administrator and Accolade yearbook advisor. Mrs. Morgan came to CCS from South Charlotte Middle School where she worked for 10 years. Mrs. Morgan holds a bachelor's degree in business and marketing education from North Carolina State University where she graduated with summa cum laude honors as valedictorian of the College of Education. She also holds her master's degree in educational leadership from Winthrop University. Mrs. Morgan and her husband, Kyle, have a daughter Graycen ('26) as well as a four-year-old son, Tucker, and a two-year-old daughter, Annie.

Shonn Brown 
Upper School Principal

Mr. Shonn Brown joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty in 1999 and moved into the role of upper school principal in 2017. As the upper school principal, Mr. Brown serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the upper school. He is also responsible for providing leadership for all academic, spiritual and operational programs, and activities in the upper school. He previously served as the upper school principal of student life at CCS. Mr. Brown’s prior roles at Charlotte Christian have included teacher, department chair, dean of students, coach, associate athletic director and interim athletic director. A native of Charleston, S.C., Mr. Brown received his undergraduate degree in biology from Clearwater Christian College and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Covenant College. Shonn and his wife, Allycia, have two children: Terrelle ('18), currently a sophomore at Wheaton College in Chicago, Ill., and Morgan ('21).

Andy Ross 
Director of Athletics 

Mr. Andy Ross joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty in 2007 and as of 2017 is the athletic director. He serves as the head of the athletic department, providing leadership to coaches and athletic teams and overseeing all athletic operations. Mr. Ross received his BS in Biology from Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn. Mr. Ross's previous roles at Charlotte Christian have included teaching middle school science, health, pre-algebra and Bible; coaching middle school football, basketball and golf; and serving at the assistant athletic director. Prior to coming to Charlotte Christian, he taught middle school math and science and coached varsity football and girls basketball at The Stony Brook School.  Andy and his wife, Lauren, have five children: Jason ('31), Hannah, Addie ('32), Luke ('34) and Eli ('34).

Laura Goodyear 
Director of Communications

Mrs. Laura Goodyear joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty in 2006 as the director of communications. She is responsible for overseeing all communications efforts for Charlotte Christian School including strategic planning, advertising, media relations, internal communications and online apparel. Prior to coming to Charlotte Christian, she worked in college athletic media relations. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications with an emphasis in public relations. Laura and her husband, Zach, have two sons, Knox (‘28) and Hayes ('31), and a three-year-old daughter, Reese.

Sara Reid 
Director of Development

Mrs. Sara Reid joined the Charlotte Christian faculty in 2013 as the director of annual giving, responsible for the annual fund. In 2019 Mrs. Reid transitioned to her current position as director of development, focusing on major gifts and capital campaigns. Prior to Charlotte Christian, Mrs. Reid served as the executive director of alumni relations at Queens University of Charlotte and as the director of development at South Carolina's Children's Theatre. She has a BA in Communications from Hollins University and then earned her MPA from University of North Florida. Sara is married to her husband John and has two children: Maggie (’22) and Marshall (’25).

Jozi Walker 
Director of Diversity and Belonging

Mrs. Jozi Walker joined the Charlotte Christian faculty on July 1, 2021 as the director of diversity and belonging. Mrs. Walker is responsible for creating intentional space for students of color, coaching faculty as they navigate sensitive topics and partnering with the director of human resources to recruit and retain employees of color. Her previous experience includes spending three years as a summer school principal and instructional coach with the Center for Urban Teaching, as well as an adjunct professor at Wisconsin Lutheran College, teaching both undergraduate and graduate-level courses on intercultural communications. She served as a lead classroom teacher for 10 years at New Testament Christian Academy and CrossTrainers Academy (K-8), and two years as Dean of Students at HOPE Christian High School in Wisconsin. She earned her bachelor's degree from Concordia University-Wisconsin in 2007 and received a master's in education leadership, with an emphasis in cultural competency and serving diverse learners, in 2019 from Wisconsin Lutheran College. Jozi and her husband, Alexander, have three daughters, Abigail ('32), Annaliese and Audrey who are preschool-age.

Leslie Niessner 
Director of Fine Arts

Mrs. Leslie Niessner joined the Charlotte Christian faculty in 2015 as the band director and assistant director of fine arts and transitioned to the director of fine arts role in July 2020. During her tenure as the assistant director she developed the OPUS lower school music curriculum, monthly fine arts e-newsletter, beginning ukulele curriculum for middle school and has seen growth in both size and rigor for the band program as the middle and upper school band teacher. Prior to joining CCS she served as a band director in Union County public schools for 15 years. She received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University in music education and Master of Music degree from Winthrop University. Leslie and her husband, Jay, have two sons: Charlie ('34) and Jackson (3).

Leslie Prewette 
Director of Human Resources

Mrs. Leslie Prewette joined the Charlotte Christian School faculty in August 2019 as the director of human resources. She is responsible for overseeing employee relations, benefits, recruiting and staffing, and regulatory compliance in addition to creating strategies to increase the number of qualified applicants for employment and implementing an effective employee training program. She also oversees the Parent Teacher Fellowship. Prior to coming to Charlotte Christian, she worked for Chick-fil-A serving as a project manager and had oversight of human resources. Prior to that, she served as the student life director at Carmel Christian School for two years, ministry development director at Five Stones Church for five years, and as a kindergarten teacher and admissions assistant at Carmel Christian for five years. She attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Leslie and her husband, Justin, have a son, Hudson ('33), and twin daughters, Hadley and Hensley (age 4).
