Head of School Barry Giller
The Charlotte Christian head of school is hired by the board of trustees to oversee day-to-day the operations of the school and carry out the mission of the school.
Mr. Barry Giller assumed the position of Charlotte Christian head of school in June 2010. As head of school, Mr. Giller oversees the college preparatory school’s 200 employees and more than 1,200 students in grades JK to 12. In his tenure at Charlotte Christian, Mr. Giller has overseen seven building campaigns: the Warner Field House and renovation of the Guy Gym in 2012; the Hendrick Center for Arts and Science in 2013; the MS/US Media Center as well as the athletic stadium and track renovation in the summer of 2015; the Center for Worship and Performing Arts in 2017; phase 2 of the master campus plan including Guy Field, Harvick Field House, and eight tennis courts in 2020; the Middle School Building opening in 2022; and the Upper School Building opening in 2023. He also introduced an all-inclusive dining program (2013-14) and the iKnights academic technology initiative bringing Apple technology to campus.
A 1994 graduate of Wheaton College, he received his Bachelor of Arts in history/social science and a certification for secondary education. He also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University and is an adjunct professor at Gordon College. Mr. Giller is a member of the executive committee for the Council of Educational Standards and Accountability and is the president of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association. Mr. Giller is also a faculty member for the Van Lunen Center at Calvin University which provides executive management education for heads of Christian schools.
Mr. Giller served six years as headmaster at Christian Heritage School, a private K-12 interdenominational Christian college preparatory school, in Trumbull, Conn. He joined Christian Heritage in 2001 as the upper school principal and was promoted to the headmaster position in 2004.
In addition to his more than 25 years of work as a Christian education administrator, he has a strong background in development, athletics, and teaching. Prior to his appointment at Christian Heritage, he also served at Dade Christian School in Miami, Fla. (1997-2001) and Stony Brook School in Stony Brook, N.Y. (1994-97). He has previously served as a principal, assistant principal, athletic director, teacher, coach, and dorm parent.
Barry and his wife of 29 years, Lisa, have seven children (one current student and six graduates which includes one faculty member at Charlotte Christian) and five grandchildren. The family is active at New City Church.
Board of Trustees
The board of trustees of Charlotte Christian School meets seven times a year. The trustees are tasked with protecting the mission of the school, ensuring the school's long-term sustainability, and overseeing the work of the head of school.
