Welcome Back-to-School!

The calendar says that January is the start of a new year, but parents know the real start of a new year is in August when the kids return to school. With the beginning of the 2012-13 school year just around the corner, here are some changes you will see when you return to campus:

  • Renovated Dining Hall: we are excited to launch our new lunch program and are thrilled with the re-modeled serving area.
  • Guy Gym Expansion: though the project is not finished, you will see great progress has been made and this new facility will enhance all of our divisions and programs beginning in November.
  • Stadium Upgrades: we have a new scoreboard, thanks to several corporate sponsors, and new visitor and home bleachers, thanks to a generous donor.
  • STEM Lab: our lower school students will enjoy our new science lab complete with iPads which will enhance our new STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) curriculum. To read more about this program, visit Director of Academics Theresa Kasay’s post on The Learning Curve blog on our website.
  • Outdoor Basketball: there is a new outdoor mini-basketball court to be utilized by our lower school students at recess and after school as part of our Extended Day program.
  • SMART Boards: several new boards were installed in upper school and fine arts classrooms.
  • Security Cameras & Lighting: new security cameras and lighting were installed around campus.

We are praying for a wonderful year and we look forward to seeing the many blessings that God has planned for our community.

God Bless,

Barry Giller
Head of School

Our campus participates in an Allergy Smart Awareness Program which provides food allergy awareness in the classrooms and to all faculty and staff who have direct contact with students who are at risk for an allergic reaction. If your child has a food allergy, please contact Mrs. Lisa McCorkle, RN in our nurse’s office and schedule a time to visit with her over the summer regarding your child’s specific food allergy needs and concerns. She can be reached at lisa.mccorkle@charchrist.com or (704) 366-5657, 2155. Please also communicate any allergy concerns to your child’s classroom teacher and principal and any co-curricular program director (extended day, athletics, fine arts, etc.) that your child may be involved with during the year. The Flik dining team is also available to meet with each family who has concerns about food allergies. Chef David Stowe can be reached at david.stowe@compass-usa.com.
