Freshman Emma VanDeVelde Wins Blumey Award
Freshman Emma VanDeVelde won Best Supporting Actress at the inaugural 2012 Blumey Awards. Emma was nominated for her performance as Anita in Charlotte Christian’s spring musical West Side Story. Also at the awards, senior Bethany Klinect received a $10,000 scholarship, renewable annually, from the Doctor Family Foundation
Art Students Win Top Honors At 2012 Congressional Art Competition
For the third year in a row, Charlotte Christian students have won top honors at the Congressional Art Competition for Congresswoman Sue Myrick’s district. Charlotte Christian junior Carson Kowar won first place in the 2012 Congressional Art Competition for the 9th Congressional District and junior Kate Condon won third place. The winners were announced at a reception held Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Arts on Main in downtown Gastonia. The competition encompassed the 9th congressional district of North Carolina and provided an opportunity to showcase the talent of the area’s high school constituents and to acknowledge the nation’s gifted young artists.
Carson’s first place award includes round trip airline tickets to Washington, D.C. where she will be honored for her artistic achievement during a ceremony planned for June. Her piece will also be displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel in Washington, D.C., representing Sue Myrick’s district.
ACT 2 Drama Team Wins Awards at NCTC Middle School Play Festival
Charlotte Christian School’s ACT 2 competition middle school drama team recently competed at the North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC) Middle School Play Festival, earning a total of five individual and group honors. The competition was held March 17, 2012 in Southern Pines, N.C. The Charlotte Christian team presented Law and Order: A Fairy Tale Unit and Disney’s Mulan, Jr. The team won the following honors for Law & Order: A Fairy Tale Unit: Distinguished Play with a Superior Rating; Excellence in Overall Production and Design; and Excellence in Male Acting for eighth grader Brad Kesling. The team won the following awards for their production of Disney’s Mulan, Jr.: Excellence in Costume Design and Outstanding Actress of the Festival for sixth grader Caroline Farley.
Nikki Krecicki (’11) Photo Selected for Intel Commercial
Recent alumna Nikki Krecicki photo of her grandmother entitled “A Wrinkle In Time” was chosen for the National Geographic Photography Contest during her senior year. Her photo was featured in week six of the competition where it received national and international applause. Recently the Intel Corporation purchased the rights to use the picture in a commercial.
