Congratulations to six Charlotte Christian seniors on receiving academic recognition from the National Merit® Scholarship Corporation. Two seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists and four seniors have been named Commended Students in the 62nd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  Recognition is based on their performances on the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) taken as juniors.  All six students will receive a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, and semifinalists will continue in the program, competing for National Merit scholarships that will be announced in the spring.

More than 16,000 students from across the country were recently named semifinalists as part of the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists will go on to compete for approximately 7,500 National Merit® Scholarships, worth about $33 million, that will be offered next spring.   To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.  About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. 

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized this year for their exceptional academic promise based on their performance on the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).  Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the National Merit Qualifying Test.
