Charlotte Christian hosts CITA Secondary Theatre Festival - April 12, 2010

There was an amazing time in fellowship with other Christian schools as Charlotte Christian hosted the CITA (Christians in Theatre Arts) Secondary Theatre Festival. Christian schools from here in North Carolina, as well as Georgia and Virginia were blessed to watch so many talented students from arts programs across the southeast. Congratulations to the ACT 1 & ACT 2 drama team members  who represented Charlotte Christian so well both as hosts and in the presentation of their gifts and talents:

Director of Fine Arts awarded by the North Carolina Theatre Conference - March 25, 2010

Congratulations to Michelle Long, director of fine arts at Charlotte Christian School, who was recently honored with the 2009 K-12 Theatre Educator Award by the North Carolina Theatre Conference. The NCTC awards are presented each year by the NCTC board of directors and past presidents to companies, schools, and individuals that have exhibited leadership roles in their community, as well as artistic, professional, or educational excellence.

2009-10 Winter Athletic Signings - February 3, 2010

The NCAA’s National Signing Day was held Wednesday, Feb. 3, and the following Charlotte Christian seniors signed letters of intent to play college athletics:

David Durham: Football-The Ohio State University
Sam Fulginiti: Football-Elon University
Brittany Gendron: Ladies Soccer-Western Carolina University

Varsity Basketball - January 25, 2010

Veteran recognitions, patriotic music, and special speakers were all ways students honored our the country's veterans in all three chapels held Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Lower school students recognized all veterans in attendance and participated in a special prayer for all of our service men and women. The lower school band also performed an armed forces medley featuring the theme songs from all branches of the U.S. military.

The middle school chapel featured Rick Faulkner, executive pastor of Team Church in Matthews, NC. Pastor Faulkner presented the topic of “Courageous or Coward” and shared pictures from his extensive military service. When he retired in 1999, Master Chief Petty Officer Faulkner had spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy where he served in the Persian Gulf during the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979-81and onboard the USS Iowa when turret two exploded, taking the lives of 49 servicemen on April 19, 1989. The middle school symphonic band students also performed special music in honor of Veterans Day.

The upper school chapel featured music from both the upper school choir and wind ensemble performing patriotic songs in honor of our country. Dr. Donn Headley, upper school history teacher, spoke on “Heroes & History.” Dr. Headley’s topic was a presentation of the history of the five branches of the U.S. military and our nation’s conflicts, including a challenge to all upper school students to define who their heroes are with scriptural suggestions as to who their heroes should be.

Fall National Signing Day held at Charlotte Christian School - November 11, 2009

Four Charlotte Christian student-athletes signed national letters of intent to play at the collegiate level on Wednesday, Nov. 11 during the fall National Signing Day ceremony held in the Lamb/Johnson Gymnasium. John Kincaid will play baseball at Appalachian State University; Trey Laney will play baseball at Western Carolina University; Akil Mitchell will play basketball at the University of Virginia; and Jake Watson will play baseball at the University of South Carolina.

 

Varsity Volleyball Victory - September 15, 2009

The varsity volleyball team took home the trophy from the FCDS End of Summer Slam Tournament going 5-0.  Senior Bethany Mitchell was named tournament MVP while junior Julia Buwick and freshman Sydel Curry were named to the all-tournament team.
