Selection Process
Each November, the National Honor Society advisor meets with eleventh grade students to review eligibility requirements. After this meeting, students are informed of their cumulative, unweighted and weighted GPA at the conclusion of four semesters. Students have the opportunity to ask questions regarding the eligibility requirements and selection process for National Honor Society.
Following this meeting, each student who would like to become a member of the National Honor Society must schedule a conference with the National Honor Society advisor. During this conference, the student is informed of any areas that need improvement in order to be selected for membership, if any exist. A written summary of this conference is mailed home to parents.
In March, all eleventh grade students eligible for membership in National Honor Society are notified by mail. At that time, they may begin the process of completing the necessary paperwork by either downloading the required forms from www.charlottechristian.com or picking them up from the National Honor Society advisor. The required paperwork includes three recommendation forms to be completed by three different people (excluding parents) who can sufficiently assess leadership ability, service and strength of character. In addition, each student must complete a student activity information form that documents school and community involvement, particularly leadership and service experiences, and write a short essay.
A faculty council (appointed by the principal) reviews each student’s documentation and selects new members of the National Honor Society. Students are then notified by mail of the final decision.
The membership induction ceremony, held in April, is a special event that parents and friends are invited to attend.
If you have any questions regarding the National Honor Society or the application process, please contact Mrs. Jennifer Briggs, National Honor Society advisor, at (704) 366-5657, ext. 4315.
Eligibility
The National Honor Society is based on four core values: scholarship, service, leadership and character. Students who desire to be members of the National Honor Society at Charlotte Christian School must demonstrate each of these four values in a Christ-honoring and Bible-centered manner both on and off campus.
Scholarships
Students must demonstrate scholarship by earning either a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.75 or weighted GPA of 4.0 or higher at the conclusion of five upper school semesters.
Service
Students must have met the requirements of the Knights Service program for both ninth and tenth grade in order to be eligible for membership in the National Honor Society. Students selected for membership demonstrate a commitment to serving others in their school, church and community. The students should be willing to sacrifice in order to offer assistance, work well with others and be willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities. Service must be demonstrated at school and also in the outside community.
Leadership
Students must have leadership experience in school, church or community. A student leader is one who takes initiative in promoting school activities, exemplifies positive attitudes, is thoroughly dependable in any responsibility accepted and exercises a positive influence on peers in upholding the ideals of our school. A student leader has successfully held school offices and/or positions of responsibility.
Character
A person of character demonstrates the following qualities: respect, responsibility, kindness, self-control, trustworthiness, concern for others, honesty and reliability. In addition, a person of character has a teachable spirit and a genuine interest to learn and grow. Students of character comply with school regulations on a consistent basis and demonstrate a commitment to school standards, rules and expectations.

Discipline
National Honor Society members who fall below the standards that were the basis for their selection shall be promptly warned (placed on probation) in writing by the NHS advisor and given a reasonable amount of time to correct the deficiency. In the case of flagrant violation of school rules or the law, a member does not have to be warned.
Violation of such standards includes failure to maintain the minimum GPA requirement (assessed on a quarterly basis) as well as failure to complete the NHS service requirement (assessed on a semester basis).
Disciplinary dismissal from NHS will be determined by majority vote of the faculty council.
